Display Your Spiritual Gifts

God gives spiritual gifts to each member of the body of Christ. The visible evidence of our gifts makes the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives known to others.

God chooses spiritual gifts for each of us according to his purpose. He decides how to distribute them. He does not bestow them on us equally, but in a way that will best serve the interest and further improve the welfare of the whole Christian body. None of us is more worthy than another of a particular gift. Each gift holds value for its intended purpose.

God designed our spiritual gifts to be used for the common good. He does not give a gift to anyone simply for their own advantage. He gives it to them for the benefit of others. God confers our gifts in amounts that are best adapted to be the most useful, to do the most good in building up the entire community. He expects us to employ our gifts to advance the kingdom of Christ on earth. Whatever the evidence of the Spirit’s presence, these gifts are intended to be used for the optimal benefit of the whole body.

God desires for us to maximize the usefulness of our spiritual gifts. All of our various spiritual gifts and the duties they enable us to perform proceed from God. For our part, we can show contentment with our allotment of gifts and strive to make the best use of them. We do well to cultivate and improve the Spirit’s gifts. None of us should feel lowly if we occupy a seemingly unimportant station. Our place has been assigned to us by God. Even the least gift can contribute much when rightly used according to God’s purpose.

The evidence of the Spirit’s presence is given to each person for the common good of everyone. 1 Corinthians 12:7

If a close friend came to visit and presented you with various gifts, you wouldn’t think of leaving the packages in their wrappings. You would open them right away and take joy in your gifts. You would show your valued gifts to your family. You would place your treasures in a prominent place where others could enjoy them, too.

If you have come to faith in Jesus Christ, God has presented you with valuable spiritual gifts. Have you unwrapped and displayed them in a way that makes known the work of the Holy Spirit in your life? Do others enjoy the benefit of your spiritual gifts?
